Garage door questions, answered

Straight answers on springs, openers, new doors, estimates and financing.

Repairs
How do I know if my garage door spring is broken?

You'll often hear a loud bang from the garage. Afterward the door won't lift, opens only a few inches, or the opener strains and stops. On a torsion system you may see a gap in the spring above the door.

Stop using the opener and call us. Running it with a broken spring can damage the opener.

Can I replace a garage door spring myself?

We don't recommend it. Torsion springs store enough energy to cause serious injury, and winding them takes the right bars and the right spring size for your door's weight.

Should I replace both springs if only one broke?

On a two-spring door, yes in most cases. Both springs have the same number of cycles on them, so the second one usually fails soon after the first.

Do you offer emergency service?

Yes, 24/7. Call (816) 301-5209 any time, including nights, weekends and holidays. Regular office hours are Monday to Friday 7 AM to 6 PM and Saturday 9 AM to 3 PM.

New doors & openers
How long does it take to install a new garage door?

Most single and double doors are installed in one visit of about four to six hours, including removal of the old door. Custom doors take a few weeks to arrive from the factory.

What does R-value mean on a garage door?

R-value measures how well the door resists heat flow. Higher numbers insulate better. It matters most if your garage is heated, attached, or has a room above it.

Which garage door brands do you carry?

We install Amarr, Haas, Delden and Doorlink doors, and LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie openers.

Belt or chain drive opener?

Belt drives are much quieter, which matters with a bedroom above the garage. Chain drives cost a bit less and are fine for detached garages.

Estimates, payment & plans
Are estimates really free?

Yes. We'll come out, measure and give you a written price with no obligation.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. Monthly payment options are available on new doors and openers, subject to credit approval. See the financing page or ask during your estimate.

What's included in a maintenance tune-up?

Lubrication, spring balance adjustment, a safety reverse and sensor test, and tightening of hinges, brackets and cables. See the maintenance plans page for the full list.

Which areas do you serve?

27 cities across the Kansas City metro in Missouri and Kansas. The service areas page lists them all.
